Winter Paralympic Games 2018

Paralympic games gather athletes in situation of physical,mental and visual disability of every country for sporting events. These games were created so that everybody can take part in the Olympic games.

The Winter Paralympic games of 2018 took place from 9 to 18 march at Pyeongchang in South Korea. It’s the second time that the games have taken place in South Korea.

There are 6 sports mixed or not : the Biathlon, the Curling in wheelchair, Hockey on sled, alpin skiying, Cross-country skiying and snowboard. All in all, there are 80 tests.

Classification:

570 athletes coming from 49 countries (America, Asia and Europe) took part in this XII edition of the Winter Paralympic games. The country « top ten » was:

1-The USA with 13 golden medals, 15 silver medals and 8 bronze medals

2-Neutrals athletes with 8 golden medals, 10 silver medals and 6 bronze medals

3-Canada with 8 golden medals, 4 silver medals and 16 bronze medals

4-France with 7 golden medals, 8 silver medals, 5 bronze medals

5-Germany with 7 golden medals, 8 silver medals, 4 bronze medals

6- Ukraine with 7 golden medals, 7 silver medals, 8 bronze medals

7- Slovaquie with 6 golden medals, 4 silver medals, 1 bronze medal

8- Belarus with 4 golden medals, 4 silver medals, 4 bronze medals

9- Japan with 3 golden medals, 4 silver medals, 3 bronze medals

10-Netherlands with 3 golden medals, 3 silver medals, 1 bronze medals

The Dead Zone

The enormous « dead zone » in the golf of Mexico will take decades to recover even if the flow of farming chemicals causing the damage is completely halted.

The cause of this problem is the intensive agriculture from the Mississippi. There are lots of wastes thrown into the river by humans, and they come into the gulf of Mexico. The result is an oxygen-deprived dead zone in the gulf. The dead zone is greater than the state of New Jersey.

This problem is emblematic of global suffocation of the oceans caused by modern agriculture. The gulf of Mexico loses all its fish and its nature wildlife is a bad things for the world.

There is also a solution but is not sure.. is the cutting nitrogen flow to the gulf by 20% by 2025, but is very hard we are very late.

Mosquitoes to fight the ZIKA virus in Cayman

The Cayman Islands is one of the most affected by the Zika virus carried by the « Aedes y Egypti »  mosquitoe, wich has affected nearly a third of the population 30000 inhabitants. Scientists have decided to do something to fight back against Zika.

Scientists began to create sterile males Genetically modified mosquitos so that they could mate with females responsible of the contamination without having subsequent offspring.

« Oxitec » then decided to create more than 3 million GMO mosquitos that they released to the Cayman Islands in the West Bay area.In West Bay the rate of victims affected by ZIKA dropped.

« The operation was a great succes » said Dr. Bill Petrie ; The rate of people affected by Zika virus dropped by 90%. However this technique is not eternal so it has a limit fear scientists.

The cost of the production of these GMO’s will be expensive. The modified mosquitoes are male and knowing also the life of a mosquitoe is short the laboratory « Oxitec » would need to produce iften. In addition, these GMO’s once released can have an impact on the environnement because we do not know what it can cause later. These mosquitoes can also be killed by humans who do not distinguish « Aedes y Egypti » from others ; and we do not know if they adapt everywhere, among other reasons.These are alldoupts that this technique faces.

Nevertheless, for the moment, it offers many advantages and does the job well like less health problem, less deaths fewer victims and safe public helth

The invention of these mosquitoes is pure engineering for now but for the rest of the future we can not say that this technique is 100% reliable.

MEETING BETWEEN DONALD TRUMP AND KIM JONG-UN

The World is afraid of them, the World prays to avoid a nuclear war, well, the World has maybe been heard. Indeed, next May, Donald Trump, the president of the United States, and Kim Jong-Un, the dictator of North Korea, will meet to talk about the denuclearization of North Korea, an initiative taken by Kim Jong-Un himself. This is a big step  towards peace for some, but only a strategy for others because his father and grandfather have already declared that they wanted the denuclearization of North Korea to revive the economy and take back the project shortly after. However, the exact date and location of the meeting have not been communicated yet.

 

Why it is so important ?                                                                                                                       Well, since he became president, Trump is constantely been provoking his North Korean counterpart via Twitter or in conference. He’s threat him and called him with stupid names like « Rocket Man ». This meeting could calm the situation.

The death of Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking was born on 8 january 1942 in Oxford and died on 14 march 2018 in Cambridge. At 21 years old, he was diagnosed with Charcot disease and the doctor gave him 2 years to live. He was a famous English theoretical, physicist, cosmologist, author and director of research and professor. During his life, he worked for the NASA, on gravitationnal singularity theorems, relativity, the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, wormhole and the theory of inflation. He was considered a genius of astrophysics. Stephen Hawking was an icon of pop culture. He appeares in a lot of movies, TV series, cartoons as himself, and he wrote a lot of best-sellers. He was considered the god of « geeks ». He appeared in « The Big Bang Theory », « The Simpsons » and « Star Trek ».

This year, in 2018, there will be the greatest sport event which happens every four years.This year it will be in Russia. This event is a football competition with the best nations. Of course you’ve found it ,I am talking about « the 2018 world cup » which will start the 14 of June and will end the 15 of July.

The world football cup is a « fight » of the best teams of football.They fight for the most prestigious trophy: the world cup. They are 32 teams including the last winner ,Germany,the winner of the European cup,the Portugal,and others teams like Brazil,France,Argentina…We hope Japan wins because this team is a small chick.We can note that Italy is absent.

There will be the best players like RONALDO, MESSI, POGBA, NEYMAR, MULLER.There are pool games with four teams by pool game and each team has to fight two times. The best two teams of each group have qualified and there is a random draw to decide who plays who.

A HIGHLY COLORFUL EVENT: THE CULTURAL HERITAGE WEEK

This week, a really important event took place in Joseph Zobel High School : Cultural Heritage  Week. Indeed, between the 12th and the 16th of March, the whole high school mobilized itself to highlight Martinique culture.

During this period, many conferences about the Caribbean area and its culture were presented at the amphitheather to several classes. For the grand finale, some students and some staff members took part in a show on the last day of the week from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The high school choir and the bèlè dancers animated the day, with the help of Mr. MARIE-SAINTE. Traditionnal folk songs and dances were perfomed and, at the end, there was a parade with the students who had come to school with traditionnal clothes on. Many pictures of the different couples were taken by a young photographer.

Most of the students enjoyed this week and especially the last day. We can’t wait for the next Cultural Heritage Week of Joseph Zobel and are very happy to celebrate this event in order to preserve our culture!

Latest Smartphone Game Release: Fortnite

After having conquered the different platforms like pc and consoles with their top game: Fortnite, Epic Games announced its release on smartphone on the 15th March 2018!!!

For now it isn’t at available on all smartphones, it is only on IOS an also you must be invited to play this game .

As I haven’t got IOS, I interviewed a guy who has it and this is what he said: « It’s very difficult to play right now, you can’t run and use your gun at the same time.You must be immobile to scope and also the commands on  smartphones are restricted but maybe an update later will clear that up! ».I think that yes, it is unplayable but I continue to believe in Epic Games to give us a good game.
