Surveys

To improve your school life we are making a survey to suggest ideas to the school master.

First, we want to ask you some things about everything like the games we could do in the school with all the pupils:

Many people ask us those questions so this survey will answer to the people who ask themselves like us:

Now we would like to know if you want to change something for the lunch at school:

Facebook Scandal !

In April, a security problem on Facebook was disclosed on the media ! In fact, a lot of database had been stolen and these pieces of information were supposed to have been used to interfere in the American and Russian election.

On the 9th of April, the President of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, was summoned to appear before the US Congress to whom he explained the new security policy on Facebook and Instagram !

Things turned out well for the President of Facebook who  was so convincing that Congress agreed with this new policy and Facebook didn’t have to pay any fines !

A lot of people made fun of him because of his expression during the interview that made him look like a robot !

This  issue held him in the spotlight on the Internet and was an opportunity to imagine plenty of conspiracy theories.

The moral of this story is : » Be careful when using Facebook/ Don’t reveal personal information/Respect people’s privacy or they’ll make fun of you ! «

THE FLOODS OF MONDAY, APRIL 16th !

Last Monday,  heavy rains fell on Martinique. Hopefully, LPO Joseph Zobel was not touched by the floods because it’s located on a hill. But were we aware of what was going on elsewhere? At La Jetée High school, Le François, people were evacuated because the water level was high, rivers were out of bed, people were in danger. Cars were immobilized and it’s incredible, for the first time in a long time (very long time), hail fell in the afternoon in Martinique! Is snow the next step ? Who knows ?

In sum, everyone was very surprised by these events, hopefully, on the next day the waters had come down and everything went back to normal.grelons3-738061inondations-martinique-738397

The launching of the space monster : Falcon Heavy

Falcon Heavy is the most powerful reusable rocket in the world it was launched from the Kennedy Space Center , based in Florida on February 6 , 2018 .

The rocket was made by SpaceX, an American company founded by Elon Musk, he is also the CEO of Tesla an electrical car constructor.

The rocket carried a Tesla Roadster now the car is in orbit between Mars and the Earth the « reusable » aspect of the Falcon Heavy consists of reusing the old pieces of the rocket.

Usually when a rocket is launched the rocket gets out of the atmosphere then, some of the launchers leaves the rocket to crash into the Earth’s Ocean . But with the new technologies, we can take the old launchers to use them again on the Falcon Heavy

The launching of the Falcon Heavy has been the most followed event of the month people of all countries were there. American, French, Canadian…. etc

SEXUAL HEALTH AT SCHOOL !

From 19th to 23rd of March 2018 a midwife came to school to the amphitheater.

She spoke about sexuality, emotions and risks.

This intervention took two hours. During this time we talked about situations which could be dangerous, protections, emotions and what we think about those different situations.

We asked different people what they thought about it. Their answers were :

-« Yeah it was very interesting ».

-« We could ask all the questions that we always wanted to ask ».

-« I’ve learnt a lot of interesting things ».

-« When does the midwife comeback ?  »

We are sure that everyone was excited about this intervention , despite the embarrassment of some people , everything went well . It was very useful .

AND DON’T FORGET ,

PROTECT YOURSELF !

Interview of a Dominican refugee in Martinique after « Maria »

On September 20, 2017 a violent Hurricane hurt Dominica and caused a lot of damages. In the wake of the hurricane, more than 85% of the island’s houses were damaged and 25% were completely destroyed ! Approximately 73, 000 residents were displaced in other islands or in villages which were not destroyed by « Maria » !

How was life before Hurrcane Maria ?

Life was normal. I used to go to school, to do my homework, to practise a sport… like any child ! But life was hard because my family wasn’t very rich !

What happened during Hurricane Maria ? And what did you do ?

Before the hurricane, we barricade the house. During the hurricane the roof was flown away, and half of the house collapsed !

How did you come to Martinique and why ?

I came by boat because a very good friend of ours offered to host us in Martinique because life in Dominica had become too hard !

Do you prefer life in Martinique or in Dominica ?

I like the life in Martinique best because it’s more simple but I miss Dominica and my friends who stayed there and I find it difficult to speak French every day !

Today the situation is better but there is a lot of work to rebuild all the house and buildings ! And a lot of people live without water and electricity at home.  That’s why  Joseph Zobel high school has decided to raise money to buy a generator for a village in Dominica !
